Bicone rock candy bracelet

Use top-drilled crystals in delicious bracelet, earrings

Several years ago I bought some rock candy swizzle sticks for my espresso and they reminded me of top-drilled bicone crystals. I made a bracelet with 6 mm and 8 mm Crystallized Swarovski Elements in crystal AB to duplicate the look of the candy. After that I started experimenting with different color and size combinations. I think all of these bracelets and earrings look delicious!

Step 2

1. Cut a piece of beading wire. On one end, string a crimp bead. Crimp the crimp bead about 1 in. (2.5 cm) from the end. String: 4 mm bicone crystal, six top-drilled bicones, crimp bead, two top-drilled bicones, 4 mm bicone.

2. Position the six top-drilled bicones snugly between the crimp beads. Flatten the second crimp bead as close as possible to the bicone cluster. String a pattern of eight top-drilled bicones and a 4 mm bicone, repeating until the strand is within 1⁄2 in. (1.3 cm) of the finished length.

The flattened crimps are optional but strongly encouraged. Keeping the correct tension maintains the clustered look from one end of the bracelet to the other without overtightening (and breaking) the crystals.

3. Hold the strand vertically and position the top-drilled crystals so they fit together snugly. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Remove the last seven crystals strung, string a crimp bead, and flatten it. Restring the seven crystals and string another crimp bead. Position the crystals and crimp the crimp bead.

4. On each end, trim the wire to 1 mm. Mix two-part epoxy according to the package directions. Fill a bell end-cap 3⁄4 full of epoxy. Push the cap over an end crimp and onto the adjacent 4 mm bicone. Repeat on the other end. Wipe off the excess epoxy and let dry.

Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on a cotton swab will remove excess epoxy before it dries.

5. On each end, open the loop of the end-cap and attach half of a clasp. Close the loop.
The teardrop clasp is sold without the crystal inset. Use two-party epoxy to adhere a #4300 (8 x 4.8 mm) Crystallized Swarovski Elements component.
