Peyote block necklace

Peyote bezels frame sparkling crystals

Stitch peyote bezels around crystal cubes for an easy and elegant necklace.

SUPPLIES

necklace 22 1⁄2 in. (57.2 cm)

  • 12 8 mm cube crystals in each of 2 colors: A, B
  • 27 4 mm pearls
  • 8g 11/0 cylinder beads
  • 5g 15/0 seed beads
  • clasp
  • Fireline 6 lb. test, or nylon beading thread, size D
  • beading needles, #12
Tip!
  • Make a matching 7-in. (18 cm) bracelet using six 8 mm cubes.
  • Use 4 mm bicone crystals in place of the pearls for even more sparkle.

INSTRUCTIONS

bezels

1. Attach a stop bead to the center of 1 yd. (.9 m) of Fireline, leaving an 8-in. (20 cm) tail. Pick up an 8 mm cube crystal and 11 11/0 cylinder beads. Sew through the cube again,
positioning the cylinders along one edge of the cube (FIGURE 1).

2. Pick up 11 cylinders, and sew through the cube again, positioning the beads along the edge opposite the cylinders added in step 1 (FIGURE 2).

3. Sew through the 11 cylinders added in step 1, pick up a cylinder, and sew through the next 11 cylinders. Pick up a cylinder, and sew through the next three cylinders (FIGURE 3).

4. Work two rounds of tubular peyote stitch using cylinders, and step up through the first cylinder added in each round.

5. Work a round of peyote using 15/0 seed beads, keeping firm tension so that this round is snug against the top edge of the cube.

6. Remove the stop bead, and, using the tail, repeat steps 4 and 5 to complete the bezel. Sew through the beadwork to exit a corner cylinder in the center round, tying a few half-hitch knots as you go. Repeat with the working thread, exiting an opposite corner. Do not trim the threads.

7. Repeat steps 1–6 for a total of 24 cubes, 12 of each color.

1. Pick up a 15/0, a cylinder, a 4 mm pearl, a cylinder, and a 15/0. Sew through the corresponding corner bead in a cube of contrasting color. Pick up a 15/0 and a cylinder, and sew back through the 4 mm. Pick up a cylinder and a 15/0, and sew through the corner cylinder your thread exited at the start of this step (FIGURE 4). Retrace the thread path, and end the thread.

2. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to connect the remaining cubes, alternating colors. Do not end the thread on the end cubes.

clasp

1. With the thread exiting a corner cylinder in the center round of an end cube, pick up a 15/0, a cylinder, a 4 mm, a 15/0, a cylinder, a 15/0, a 4 mm, a 15/0, a cylinder, three 15/0s, half of the clasp, and three 15/0s. Skip the last three 15/0s, clasp, and three 15/0s, and sew through the next seven beads.

2. Pick up a cylinder and a 15/0, and sew through the cylinder your thread exited at the start of step 1. Retrace the thread path a few times, and end the thread.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the other end of the necklace.
