Winners of the SHADOWS Design Challenge

The theme for the February Design Challenge was SHADOWS: Spring is getting closer, the sun is in a new place in the sky and shadows fall on the melting snow. The groundhog peeks his head out to investigate, but the woods still lay bare and silent, waiting for renewal. A shadow, a two-dimensional silhouette: blocking the light yet casting a lovely outline. The mood is eerie and quiet as the dark and the light battle for their rightful places.

This is what emerged from our readers in February!

DARK SHADOWS, a bracelet designed by Mary Drayer of Inkster, Michigan, was voted the winner of our READER'S CHOICE AWARD. She described her intricate, wire-wrapped piece in such a lovely way:

"In the misty cold night, with the moonlight casting the dark shadows, stands one of the most interesting, precise designs. Its sleek curves, jet crystal and woven body is just enough to enhance, grasp, and outline anyone's wrist.

Under the moonlight, its crystal will twinkle and guide you through the night. "

FIGURES, these delicate silver wire 3-dimensional earrings, provide an elegant outline of a figure while the rest is left to the imagination, much in the same way as a shadow does.

They were designed by Elena Vezyroglou of Thessaloniki, Greece.

MIDNIGHT SHADOWS is a bracelet designed by Sandra Landergott of Atlanta, GA. Sandra describes her piece as being reminiscent of nightfall in the Everglades.

Having just returned from a vacation in Florida myself, I can attest to the accuracy of her words!

INSPIRED? Come and join in the fun. The theme for the March Design Challenge is CELTIC.

The decorative elements of Celtic design are derived from ancient tradition: complex ornamental patterns, religious iconography, and motifs from nature. Simple knots, endlessly twisting wire, spirals or triskelions bursting with mystical energy: What will you create for March? Click here to learn more about how to enter your work.

We're so pleased to have so many readers participating in our NEW FEATURE: Vote for your favorite pieces!  Voting is already open for the Celtic Challenge, so even if you don't have a piece of jewelry to share, we'd still love to have you help us choose our Reader's Choice Award. Be sure to check out all the entries and vote for your favorite!
