Coin trick necklace

Bring good fortune your way with a silver-coin necklace
Cointrickhero2
Instead of carrying a lucky penny, wear a modern necklace with five coin dangles. Whether your coins are legal tender or clever counterfeits, you’ll love the fun and ease of this necklace. For an alternative design, attach gold-colored coins to a brass chain. See how far a little spare change can take you.

SUPPLIES

  • 5 15–18mm coins
  • 6 accent beads, approximately 6 x 8mm
  • 12 4mm flat spacers
  • 16–20 in. (41–51cm) chain, 4–6mm links
  • 15 in. (38cm) 22-gauge half-hard wire
  • 12 4mm jump rings
  • lobster claw clasp
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Tip!
To make a 16-in. (41cm) or shorter necklace, cut 1-in. (2.5cm) pieces for the chain units. To make a longer necklace, use chain with larger links or cut 1 1⁄2-in. (3.8cm) pieces. To simplify, use figure-eight chain or another style with long and short links, then count the number of links for each piece, rather than measuring.
INSTRUCTIONS
Cointrick1
1. Cut a 2 1⁄2-in. (6.4cm) piece of wire. Make the first half of a wrapped loop at one end. String a spacer, an accent bead, and a spacer. Make the first half of a wrapped loop above the spacer. Make a total of six bead units.

2. Cut five 1–1 1⁄2-in. (2.5–3.8cm) pieces of chain (see above Tip), making sure each piece has a center link. Open a jump ring and attach a coin. Close the jump ring. Open a second jump ring and attach the first jump ring and a chain’s center link. Make a total of five chain units.

3. Attach a bead unit’s loop to each end of a chain unit. Complete the wraps on the loops attached to the chain.
Cointrick4
4. On each end, connect: chain unit, bead unit, chain unit, bead unit. Complete the wraps around the chain links, leaving each end loop unwrapped.

5. Determine the finished length of your necklace. (The figure-eight chain necklace is 16 in./41cm; the textured-chain necklace, 17 in./43cm.) Subtract the length of the coin portion of the necklace, divide that number in half, and cut two pieces of chain to that length. Attach one piece to each end loop. Complete the wraps.

6. Check the fit, and trim links from each end if necessary. Attach the clasp to one end with a jump ring. Attach a jump ring to the other end.
