Wired disk earrings

Harness disk beads with a simple wire wrap for an elegant design
EEwireddiskshero03

Use either 24- or 26-gauge wire, depending on how prominent you want the wraps to be. Use chainnose pliers to hold the loop closed, and wrap the wire with your fingers — it’s easier than maneuvering with pliers.

SUPPLIES

  • 2 disk-shaped beads, approximately 15 mm (glass beads from Heather Boardman, hmbstudios.com)
  • 16 in. (41 cm) 24- or 26-gauge half-hard wire
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers, or 2 pairs of chainnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

EEwireddisks1
1. Cut an 8-in. (20 cm) piece of wire. Bend it in half to make a loop. String both ends through a disk bead, bending the wire up. Leave about 1⁄4 in. (6 mm) of the loop extending beyond the bead.

2. Wrap each end around the loop’s stem in opposite directions.

3. Continue wrapping each end around the stem, leaving the loop open. Trim the excess wire and use chainnose pliers to tuck the ends.

4. Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
