Not sure which online marketplace is right for you? Here’s the lowdown on five online options to help you select where to sell. Note that terms for each market are subject to change; links to each market provide up-to-date details.

etsy

Sell jewelry on Etsy.com

Most popular and arguably best known of online craft marketplaces. Listing categories include handmade, vintage, and supplies. If you are considering if this is where you will sell, keep in mind:

  • Fees are $0.20 per item. Listings are active for four months or until they sell.
  • When you sell an item, there’s a small commission and standard payment processing fee: 5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee.
  • Etsy pays to advertise your items across the web through Offsite Ads. You pay a fee of 15% when you make a sale from one of those ads.
  • A PayPal account is required and may not be a standalone PayPal account. (With standalone PayPal, payments are deposited immediately into the seller's PayPal account, unlike Etsy Payments, where Etsy processes the payments and then disburses funds into the seller's bank account.)
  • Offers marketing tools for crafting posts, offsite ads, and coupons.
  • Connect with other artists with online forums.
  • Your URL would be: etsy.com/shop/yourstorename.
  • Store names are fixed and cannot be changed more than once.

Another big player in online jewelry is ArtFire.com. Listing categories include handmade goods, vintage, and craft supplies. If you are considering if this is where you will sell, keep in mind:

  • One set cost per month with no other fees. You can select the plan that’s right for you, and change your plan at any time.
  • No long-term commitment.
  • Allows commercially produced products, but has them clearly defined and categorized.
  • Storefront template allows for a personalized banner.
  • Connect with other artists with online forums.
  • Pages for a blog, bio, and gallery.
  • Your URL would be artfire.com/ext/shop/yourstorename.
