Your Never to Young to Bead

My family and I traveled back to St. Louis over the July 4 weekend to stay with my parents. I excitedly packed my travel tote to overfilling capacity with beading supplies and projects to work on while there. We always seem to commune on the screened-in porch, and I love sitting at the table to bead while visiting with my family. There is something zen-like just sitting there soaking up the humid weather, listening to the birds sing, and feeling the warm breeze while gazing at the view of my dad's lovely yard packed with flowers and a lush garden. It's the perfect summer hang out.

Lucy, my 8 year old niece, happily sat at the table with me and decided that she wanted to make a bracelet and a ring. So I gave her some beads and a needle and thread and let her string away. I thought she did a great job, and she was thrilled to death to be creating. As true to our family nature, she is an artist at heart and quickly moved on to "designing" her own beading patterns. She had these all planned out and told me exactly what I should be making next. I was informed that she would draw it all out and then I could just follow her picture and make the jewelry. I think she might be a good editor-in-training just maybe!

Here are a few of her creations. I had to crack up at her sketch of the foot. I must say it was fun having her there to hang out and get excited about beads. With having three boys, I get none of that at home. Plus, it's great exposure for the younger generation to get excited about our passion. Hopefully it will help fuel the fire for her to want to design jewelry in the future. But for now, I think I will just pin these illustrations on my bulletin board and smile every time I look at them!
