Loomed leaves beaded bracelet

A mix of matte and shiny beads adds depth and detail to the lifelike leaves in this loomwork bracelet.

MATERIALS

loomwork band 6 in. (15 cm)

  • Japanese cylinder beads, 4 g in each of 5 colors: A, B, C, D, E
  • clasp
  • nylon beading thread, or Fireline 4 lb. test
  • beading needles, #12
  • beading loom
  • 1¾ in. (4.4 cm) cuff blank (optional)

1. Prepare your loom with 34 warp threads. Leaving an 18-in. (46 cm) tail, tie 3 yd. (2.7 m) of thread on the first warp thread.

2. Beginning with the sixth row, follow the pattern to complete the band. Note: I found it easier to make the ends by working five decreasing rows at each end.

3. To work the decrease rows, refer to the FIGURE.

4. When you have completed the pattern, cut the work from the loom, taking care not to cut too close to either end row of beadwork.

5. Weave the tails into the beadwork, saving a tail on each end to attach the clasp. 

6. Exit the 10th cylinder bead on one end of the band. Using the tail, pick up 13 cylinders and half of the clasp. Sew back through the sixth cylinder, enclosing the clasp in the loop. Pick up five cylinders and sew into the 16th cylinder on the end of the band. Secure the tails in the beadwork, and trim.

7. Repeat step 6 on the other end with the other half of the clasp.
