Simply gems earrings

Simplygemshero
When you have a spectacularly cut gemstone bead, the best approach is to simply let its beauty shine through. Simplicity doesn’t mean you have no options, though. There are a number of ways to subtly enhance a stone.

SUPPLIES

  • 2 22–26 mm faceted nugget beads, top drilled (green amethyst from Gems Ocean, 212.213.9848, gemsocean.com)
  • 8 in. (20 cm) 24-gauge half-hard wire
  • 8 in. (20 cm) 26-gauge half-hard wire
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

Simplygems1
1. Cut a 4-in. (10 cm) piece of 26-gauge wire. String a nugget bead and make a set of wraps above it. Make a wrapped loop.

2. Cut a 4-in. (10 cm) piece of 24-gauge wire. With chainnose pliers, make a small hook on one end. Wrap the wire horizontally around the nugget, and loop the wire around the hook.

3. Wrap the wire around the nugget twice. String the end through the loop formed in step 2. Make a small bend in the wire and trim the excess. Use roundnose pliers to twist the bend (to tighten the wraps) if necessary.

4. Open the loop of an earring wire and attach the dangle. Close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
