Silver and turquoise memory wire cuff

Splurge on silver and save on turquoise by using more affordable magnesite or chalk turquoise!

Like many of you, I too have a fondness for the silver and turquoise combo. I splurged on silver — the undulating spacer bars bracket round beads sumptuously — and saved on turquoise. The round beads are magnesite or chalk turquoise, a frugal, ergo favorable, alternative.

TIPS ON WORKING WITH MEMORY WIRE
  • To keep beads from slipping off the memory wire as you work, use Bead Stoppers on the ends of each wire. Or, try rubber ear nuts (shown in steps 5 through 9).
  • Memory wire comes in a variety of bracelet diameters, ranging from 1 3⁄4 in. (4.4 cm) to 2 1⁄2 in. (6.4 cm). For my 7-in. (18 cm) bracelet, I used 2 1⁄4-in. (5.7 cm) diameter memory wire. Be sure to buy the right size to fit your wrist.
  • Use a mandrel to help you gauge what size memory wire you’ll need. EZ Bracelet above by Cheri Haug, from ezbracelet.com.
  • To prevent uncomfortable ends like the ones on the vintage bracelet, trim the wires so the ends do not overlap. When making the loops on each end of the memory wire, roll your pliers two full turns, so the ends of the wires are on the outside of the bracelet, not against your wrist.
