Accented bead caps earrings

Bead caps and cones with looped edges set the stage for intricate earrings.

SUPPLIES 

  • 10–20 4 mm bicone crystals
  • 22–42 3 mm bicone crystals
  • 2 8–10 mm bead caps, with loops
  • 2 10–12 mm cones, with loops
  • 4 in. (10 cm) 24-gauge half-hard wire
  • 2 in. (5 cm) chain, 2 mm links
  • 24–54 1 1⁄2-in. (3.8 cm) 24-gauge head pins
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

1. On a head pin, string a 3 mm bicone crystal and make a plain loop. Make eight to 18 3 mm-bicone units. On a head pin, string a 4 mm bicone crystal and make a plain loop. Make four to nine 4 mm-bicone units.

2. Open the loop of a 3 mm-bicone unit and attach it to a loop on a bead cap. Close the loop. Repeat until you’ve attached a 3 mm-bicone unit to each of the bead cap’s loops. Open the loop of a 4 mm-bicone unit and attach it to a loop on a cone. Repeat until you’ve attached a 4 mm-bicone unit to each of the cone’s loops.

3. Cut a 1-in. (2.5 cm) piece of chain. On one end, attach a 4 mm-bicone unit. On the next link, attach two 3 mm-bicone units. Attach two 3 mm-bicone units to the next link.

4. Cut a 2-in. (5 cm) piece of wire. Make a plain loop on one end. Open the loop and attach the chain. Close the loop. On the wire, string: cone, 3 mm bicone, 4 mm bicone, 3 mm, bead cap, 3 mm. Make a plain loop.

5. Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
