Easy shell earrings

Shell beads and components make short work of summery earrings.

Not only are shells lightweight and comfortable to wear, but they’re affordable, too.


  • 2 diamond-shaped shell beads, approximately 30 mm
  • 2 8–10 mm curly shell beads
  • 1⁄2 in. (1.3 cm) chain, 3 mm links
  • 2 1 1⁄2-in. (3.8 cm) head pins
  • 2 6 mm jump rings
  • 2 4 mm jump rings
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Easy shell earrings Step 1
1. On a head pin, string a curly shell bead and make the first half of a wrapped loop. Cut a 1⁄4-in. (6 mm) piece of chain. Attach the shell unit to the chain and complete the wraps.

2. Open a 6 mm jump ring. Attach the chain and a diamond-shaped shell bead. Close the jump ring.

3. Use a 4 mm jump ring to attach the 6 mm jump ring and the loop of an earring wire. Make a second earring to match the first.

Looking for a different option? Try stringing curly shells directly on a hoop ear wire. Add crystal spacer beads for a bit of sparkle.

A flat disk of shell combined with a carved shell component in a slightly lighter color creates a completely different style. String from a bit of chain and add a small bead to make your piece more kinetic.
