Capture a golden glow

Necklace, bracelet, and earrings catch the light of glass beads

Frosted glass beads seem lit from within. Accent them simply with beads and rondelles that reflect their subtle shimmer in this quick trio.

SUPPLIES

necklace

  • 12-in. (30cm) strand 10mm round glass beads
  • 4 8mm rhinestone rondelles
  • 6-in. (15cm) strand 7mm beads
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 2 crimp beads
  • lobster claw clasp and soldered jump ring
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

bracelet

  • 10 10mm round glass beads
  • 6-in. (15cm) strand 6mm rondelles
  • flexible beading wire,.014 or .015
  • 2 crimp beads
  • snap clasp
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

earrings

  • 2 8mm rhinestone rondelles
  • 2 7mm beads 
  • 2 6mm rondelles
  • 2 2-in. (5cm) head pins
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Necklace

1. Cut a piece of beading wire. (My necklace is 15 in./38cm.) On the wire, center: rhine-stone rondelle, 7mm bead, rondelle, round bead, rondelle, 7mm, rondelle.

2. On each end, string a round and a 7mm. Repeat until the strand is within 1 in. (2.5cm) of the finished length.

3. On one end, string a 7mm, a crimp bead, and a lobster claw clasp. Repeat on the other end, substituting a soldered jump ring for the clasp. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Go back through the last few beads strung and tighten the wire. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the excess wire.


Bracelet

1. Cut a piece of beading wire. On the wire, string a round bead and a 6mm rondelle. Repeat until the strand is within 1⁄2 in. (1.3cm) of the finished length.

2. On each end, string a crimp bead and half of the clasp. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Go back through the last few beads strung and tighten the wire. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the excess wire.

 

Earrings

1. On a head pin, string a 6mm rondelle, a rhinestone rondelle, and a 7mm bead. Make a wrapped loop.

2. Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
