Boulder opal pendant

Play up the shades of blue, grey, and gold in this unique stone with accent beads to make an earthy birthstone necklace

Boulder opals form within ironstone boulders and are found almost exclusively in Queensland, Australia. Their brown rock backing makes them durable and crack resistant. Play up their shades of blue, grey, gold, and white with accent beads in an earthy birthstone necklace. If you want to glam it up a bit, add gold leaf earrings.

4. Check the fit, and trim chain if necessary. On one end, open a jump ring and attach a lobster claw clasp. Close the jump ring. Repeat on the other end, substituting a soldered jump ring for the clasp.
Tip!
  • For beads that closely match the blue in an opal, like the ones in the earrings, try Swarovski Crystallized Elements in air blue opal.

  • The bails on the opal pendants shown are very large, so use a large lobster claw clasp and soldered jump ring to prevent the pendant from slipping off the chain.
