Recycled-glass button bracelet

As a child, Nomoda Ebenizer Djaba, also called “Cedi,” worked with his grandfather in their family bead-making business. Today Cedi is the director and owner of the Retado Bead Industry in Odumasi Krobo, Ghana. The workshop has several employees who have practiced bead making for years. The bead makers crush glass from bottles or broken window panes, funnel it into clay molds, and fire it in a wood-burning kiln. Visit Cross Cultural Collaborative, Inc. at culturalcollaborative.org to see a video of this bead-making process.
