Crop circles

Concentric rings of seed beads create a lightweight and modern pendant
Crop circles

Using relatively stiff and thick beading wire (with seven or fewer inner strands) is the key to maintaining the shape of the circles.

SUPPLIES

Pendant 2 1⁄4 in. (5.7 cm) diameter

  • 1–2 g 8/0 seed beads in each of 3 colors:
    • A (Toho H307, hybrid-turquoise Picasso)
    • B (Toho 460T, desert sun)
    • C (Toho 1207, marbled opaque turquoise blue)
  • 12 3 mm copper beads
  • 3 15 x 3 mm 3-hole spacer bars
  • 6 2 x 3 mm crimp beads
  • 6 3 mm crimp covers (copper)
  • flexible beading wire, .019, with seven inner strands
  • chainnose pliers (optional)
  • crimping pliers
  • wire cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut 6–7 in. (15–18 cm) of beading wire, and center 13 color A 8/0 seed beads. On each end of the wire, string a 3 mm copper bead, an end hole of a three-hole spacer bar, a 3 mm copper bead, 13 As, and a crimp bead. Cross the wire ends through an end hole of a three-hole spacer, and string each wire through the following crimp bead next to the spacer. Pull the wires to form the beads into a ring, but leave 1–2 mm of wiggle room between the crimp beads and the third spacer bar. Crimp the crimp beads, and trim the excess wire.

2. Using color B 8/0 seed beads and 9–10 in. (23–25 cm) of beading wire, repeat step 1, but string the Bs in groups of 20, and go through the center hole of each spacer bar.

3. Using color C 8/0 seed beads and 10–12 in. (25–30 cm) of beading wire, repeat step 1 again, but string the Cs in groups of 25, and go through the remaining hole of each spacer bar.

4. Using chainnose or crimping pliers, close a crimp cover over each crimp. String the pendant as desired.
Tip!
For quick and easy stringing, attach the pendant to ribbon using a lark’s head knot: Fold 1 yd. (.9 m) of ribbon in half, and pass the ends between the two outer rings so the fold straddles a spacer bar. Guide the ends through the fold, and tighten.
