Wire circle and bead necklace

Link lightweight wire circles with crimp beads and crystals

This unstructured necklace-and-earring set creates impact with a subtle shimmer of crystals. Vary the ring sizes and crystal quantities to adjust the intensity of the color.

Necklace

  • 100–120 4mm bicone crystals
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 36–42 crimp beads
  • lobster claw or hook clasp and soldered jump ring
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Earrings

  • 16 4mm bicone crystals
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 6 crimp beads
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters
  • crimping pliers (optional)

 INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1
1. Cut a 4-in. (10cm) piece of beading wire. String two crystals. String both ends through a crimp bead, making a loop. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the ends of the wire close to the crimp.

2. Cut a 4-in. (10cm) piece of beading wire. String three crystals, a crimp bead, and the previous loop. Crimp as in step 1.

3. Repeat step 2, varying the size of the loops and the number of crystals, until the strand is within 2 in. (5cm) of the desired length. (My necklaces are 17 1⁄2 in./44.5cm.)

4. On one end, attach a small loop as in step 2, but string a lobster claw or hook clasp before crimping. Repeat on the other end, substituting a soldered jump ring for the clasp.

5. Spread out the strand, and attach four or five more loops as desired. Space the groupings evenly along the strand.

6. To make the dangle, make two single loops and a grouping as desired.

7. Make a single loop and, before crimping, string the center loops of the strand, the dangle, and the two single loops as shown.

8. Make another single loop and, before crimping, string the dangle and the strand as shown.
Earrings

Step 1
1. Repeat step 1 of the necklace, but string four crystals instead of two. Make a one-crystal loop and a three-crystal loop, linking each to the four-crystal loop.

2. Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
Tip!
Trim the beading wire close to the crimp bead, but allow a little wire to extend so that the crimps are secure.
