December: Silver-banded turquoise bead bracelet

A silver-banded turquoise bead is the focus of this simple bracelet. Fabric beads complement the handmade quality of the birthstone, so choose a set in a shade to highlight or contrast the blue-green tones.


  • 22 mm oval turquoise bead, with silver band
  • 4 15 mm fabric beads
  • 4 10 mm metal saucer beads
  • 4–6 8 mm bicone crystals
  • 14–16 4 mm bicone crystals
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 2 crimp beads
  • S-hook clasp and 2 soldered jump rings
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Step 1
Cut a piece of beading wire. Center a turquoise bead on the wire.

Step 2
On each end, string: 4 mm bicone crystal, saucer bead, 4 mm, fabric bead, 4 mm, 8 mm bicone crystal, 4 mm.

Step 3
On each end, string: fabric bead, 4 mm, saucer, 4 mm, 8 mm, 4 mm. String alternating 8 mm and 4 mm bicones until the strand is within 1 in. (2.5 cm) of the finished length.

Step 4
On each end, string a crimp bead and a soldered jump ring. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Go back through the beads just strung and tighten the wire. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the excess wire. Attach an S-hook to one end.
