Aquiline crystals necklace and bracelet

Brushstroke-shaped crystals inspire jewelry design

Aquiline crystals bracelet

As soon as I saw the curves of these crystals, I thought of the brushwork of impressionists such as Monet, Renoir, and Degas. The brushstroke-shaped crystals (Crystallized-Swarovski Elements calls them aquiline) come top- or center-drilled, but the options aren’t available in all colors and sizes. The trick is to organize your shopping. Check availability, plan the jewelry bead by bead, make a list, and then shop.

Instructions

1. Cut two pieces of beading wire. Over both wires, string crystals as shown. Ssee a larger image in the free project PDF (link above).

Clusters:

  • 18 mm polygon
  • 18 mm top drilled
  • 28 mm center drilled
  • 36 mm top drilled
  • 28 mm top drilled
  • 18 mm center drilled
  • 5.5 mm simplicity
Tip!
  • One strand of .024 beading wire can be substituted for two strands of .018 or .019.
  • Don’t substitute bicones for the simplicity crystals. You’ll lose the snug fit the simplicity shape gives.

2. On each side, over both wires, string a crimp bead. Make a folded crimp. Trim the wire, leaving about 1 mm excess. Fill an end-cap half full with epoxy and insert the crimp. Epoxy should seep out. If it doesn’t, quickly remove the end-cap and add more epoxy. Let dry.

3. On each end, open the loop of the end-cap and attach half of a clasp. Close the loop.

Tip!

If needed, gently squeeze the crimps with pliers so they fit into the bell end-caps.
