Making a Smart Bracelet

A great tip to help you make bracelets that you can slide on and off with no problem!
Smartbracelethero
Some of us find it almost impossible to fasten a bracelet clasp without assistance. That’s why I came up with my “Smart bracelet,” which features a bead-woven band, plus a section of focal beads that are strung on elastic. Because of the elastic, you can slide the bracelet on and off with no problem.

Here’s how to make your own smart bracelet

1. Cut two 3-in. (7.6 cm) pieces of 0.5 mm elastic.

Holding them together, string a crimp bead, a 3 mm bead, a five-bead focal set, a 3 mm bead, and a crimp bead. Using chainnose pliers, flatten the crimp beads (PHOTO A), and trim the elastic.

2. Using your favorite technique, stitch a tubular rope to the desired bracelet length, minus the length of the focal section.

3. Slide the 3 mm bead on one end of the focal set into the end of the rope. Stitch the end of the rope closed between the 3 mm bead and the adjacent beadwork (PHOTO B). End the thread. Repeat on the other end.
