EMBELLISHED BEZEL: 14mm Crystal

1. On 1 yd. (.9m) of thread, and leaving a 10-in. (25cm) tail, pick up eight 15/0 seed beads. Tie the beads into a ring using a square knot, and go through the first 15/0 picked up. These beads make up rounds 1 and 2.

Round 3: Working in peyote stitch, pick up a 15/0, skip a 15/0 on the ring, and go through the next 15/0 (FIGURE 1, a–b). Repeat around the ring for a total of four stitches (b–c). Step up through the first 15/0 picked up in this round (c–d).

Round 4: Pick up two 15/0s, and go through the next 15/0 on the previous round (d–e). Repeat around for a total of four stitches, stepping up through the first 15/0 of the first pair picked up in this round (e–f).

Round 5: Pick up a 15/0, and go through the second 15/0 of the pair (f–g). Pick up two 15/0s, and go through the first 15/0 of the next pair on the previous round (g–h). Repeat around, inserting one 15/0 in the middle of the pairs and two 15/0s between each pair on the previous round. Step up through the first 15/0 added in this round (h–i).

Round 6: Work 12 peyote stitches, inserting one 15/0 between up-beads as well as in the middle of pairs on the previous round. Step up through the first 15/0 added in this round (i–j).

Rounds 7–8: Switch to cylinder beads, and work 12 peyote stitches per round (j–k).

Round 9: Work 12 stitches, alternating between one and two cylinders per stitch (k–l).

Round 10: Work 18 stitches, placing a cylinder between up-beads and in the middle of each pair on the previous round (l–m).

Rounds 11–13: Holding the 14mm crystal face-up on the beadwork, work 18 stitches per round, pulling tight so that the beadwork begins to come up around the cab (PHOTO A).

Rounds 14–15: Switch to 15/0s, and work 18 stitches per round (PHOTO B).

2. Sew diagonally through the rows of 15/0s and three rows of cylinders to exit a cylinder along the edge of the cab. Pick up a cylinder, a 4mm crystal, and a 15/0, and go back through the crystal (PHOTO C). Pick up a cylinder, and sew into the next cylinder along the edge of the cab (PHOTO D). Repeat around to add a total of 18 crystals. Secure the thread with a few half-hitch knots between beads, and trim.

3. With the tail, sew diagonally through the beadwork to exit a cylinder two rows from the edge on the underside of the cab. To begin the extension for the snap, work three peyote stitches (PHOTO E).

Continue working in flat, even-count peyote until you have a tab that is six beads wide and has seven beads along each flat edge (PHOTO F).

4. Sew one snap half to the tab (PHOTO G), secure the tail, and trim.

EMBELLISHED BEZEL: 18mm crystal

Round 3: Work seven peyote stitches (b–c).
Round 4: Work seven peyote stitches with two 15/0s per stitch (c–d).
Round 5: Work 14 peyote stitches with one 15/0 between pairs and one 15/0 in the middle of the pairs (d–e).
Rounds 6–7: Work 14 peyote stitches per round with cylinder beads (e–f).

Rounds 13–15: Work 21 peyote stitches per round using 15/0s. Use thinner beads in the last round to pull the beadwork against the cab.

2. Follow step 2 of the 14mm cab to add 21 4mm crystals around the edge.

3. Repeat steps 3 and 4 of the 14mm cab to add an extension tab and the other snap half.
