Midnight sun bracelet

Capture a crystal in a crossweave bezel nestled in a band of netted stars.

SUPPLIES

pink-and-brown bracelet 6 1⁄2 in. (16.5 cm) 

  • 18 mm crystal rivoli (Swarovski, vitrail light)
  • 32 4 mm bicone crystals (Swarovski, rose satin)
  • 46 4 mm Czech fire-polished beads (bronze)
  • 16 3 mm Czech fire-polished beads (bronze)
  • 11/0 seed beads
    • 3–5 g color A (Ornela ALSB54, iris metallic dark gold) 
    • 1 g color B (Miyuki 11-0031, 24-karat gold-plated Duracoat)
  • 2–3 g 15/0 seed beads (Miyuki 15-457, metallic dark gold)
  • lobster claw clasp
  • Fireline 6 lb. test
  • beading needles, #12 or #13

yellow-and-blue bracelet colors (use the same quantities):

  • 18 mm crystal rivoli (peacock eye)
  • 4 mm bicone crystals (light topaz)
  • 4 mm Czech fire-polished beads (smoky topaz AB)
  • 3 mm Czech fire-polished beads (turquoise)
  • 11/0 seed beads
    • color A (Miyuki 11-458, metallic brown iris) 
    • color B (Toho 11R999, gold-lined rainbow black diamond)
  • 15/0 seed beads (Miyuki 14-458, metallic brown iris)

1. Thread a needle on each end of 2 yd. (1.8 m) of Fireline, and center a 15/0 seed bead. Over both needles, pick up a 4 mm fire-polished bead (FIGURE 1)

2. With one needle, pick up four 15/0s (FIGURE 2, a–b). With the other needle, pick up five 15/0s, and cross through the last three 15/0s picked up with the first needle (aa–bb).

3. With the top needle, pick up a 15/0, a 4 mm fire-polished bead, and a 15/0. Skip the last 15/0, sew back through the 4 mm fire-polished bead, and pick up four 15/0s (FIGURE 3, a–b). With the bottom needle, pick up a 15/0, and cross through the last three 15/0s picked up with the top needle (aa–bb).

4. Repeat step 3 until you have a total of 21 4 mm fire-polished beads.

5. For the last stitch: With the top needle, pick up a 15/0, a 4 mm fire-polished bead, and a 15/0. Skip the last 15/0, sew back through the 4 mm fire-polished bead, pick up a 15/0, and sew through the corresponding three 15/0s of the first stitch (FIGURE 4, a–b). With the bottom needle, pick up a 15/0, and cross through the same three 15/0s (aa–bb).

6. With the bottom needle, sew through the next 15/0. Pick up a 15/0, and sew through the next 15/0 (FIGURE 5). Repeat to complete the round, and sew up through the next three 15/0s to exit the outer edge of the bezel.

1. With one needle, pick up four 15/0s. With the other needle, pick up five 15/0s, and cross through the four 15/0s picked up with the first needle (FIGURE 6)

2. With the outer needle, sew through the next two 15/0s in the outer rim before and after the next 4 mm fire-polished bead, and pick up four 15/0s (FIGURE 7, a–b). With the inner needle, pick up a 15/0, and cross through the last four 15/0s picked up (aa–bb).

3. Repeat step 2 around the bezel until you reach the first stitch.

4. For the last stitch: With the outer needle, sew through the next two 15/0s in the outer rim before and after the next 4 mm fire-polished bead, and sew through the first four 15/0s in the next stitch (FIGURE 8, a–b). With the inner needle, pick up a 15/0, and cross through the same four 15/0s (aa–bb). 

5. Insert the rivoli into the bezel facing “Front.”

6. With the inner needle, sew through the next 15/0 in the inner rim of the bezel. Repeat around the inner rim. With the outer needle, sew through the next two 15/0s in the outer rim and the next five 15/0s to exit the inner rim. Sew through all the 15/0s in the inner rim in the opposite direction until you reach the other thread. Tie the threads with a square knot, and end the threads.


Star motifs

1. On 24 in. (61 cm) of Fireline, pick up an alternating pattern of a color B 11/0 seed bead and a 4 mm bicone crystal six times, and tie the beads into a ring with a square knot, leaving a 1-in. (2.5 cm) tail. Sew through the next few beads, pulling the knot into a 4 mm to hide it, and exit a B. Trim the tail.

2. Pick up three color A 11/0 seed beads, a B, and three As, skip the next 4 mm bicone in the ring, and sew through the following B in the ring.

3. Repeat step 2 around the ring, and step up through the first three As and B (FIGURE 9, a–b).

4. Pick up three As, a 4 mm fire-polished bead, and three As, and sew through the next B in the previous round. Repeat to complete the round, and step up through the next three As and 4 mm fire-polished bead (b–c). Don’t end the working thread.

5. Repeat steps 1–4 to make four “Star motifs.”

1. Lay out the components with the “Rivoli bezel” in the center and two “Star motifs” on each side.

2. With the working thread exiting a 4 mm fire-polished bead on an end “Star motif,” pick up eight As, and sew through the next 4 mm fire-polished bead. Repeat once (FIGURE 10, a–b).

3. Pick up three As, and sew through a 4 mm fire-polished bead in the next “Star motif” (b–c).

4. Repeat step 2 (c–d).

5. Pick up 10 As, and sew through a 15/0 in the inner ring on the back of the “Rivoli bezel” and the next four 15/0s to exit the outer ring (d–e).

6. Pick up eight As, a 3 mm fire-polished bead, an A, a 4 mm bicone, an A, a 3 mm, and an A. Skip the last four As added in step 4, and sew through the next four As, 4 mm fire-polished bead, and four As (e–f).

7. Pick up an A, a 3 mm, an A, a 4 mm bicone, an A, a 3 mm, and an A. Skip the next 13 beads, and sew through the following four As, 4 mm fire-polished bead, eight As, and 4 mm fire-polished bead of the first “Star motif” (f–g). 

8. Pick up 14 15/0s, and sew through the next 4 mm fire-polished bead (g–h).

9. Repeat steps 2–7 to connect the remaining edge of this half of the bracelet, using the remaining working thread of the other motif if necessary. When connecting the “Star motif” to the “Rivoli bezel” in step 5, leave seven 15/0s on the inner rim of the bezel between the connectors (point i).

10. Repeat steps 2–9 for the remaining half of the bracelet, but in step 8, pick up six 15/0s, a lobster claw clasp, and six 15/0s. Leave four 15/0s on the inner rim of the “Rivoli bezel” between the connectors on one half of the bracelet and the connectors on the other half (points j and k). End all remaining threads.
