Peyote stitch: Diagonal peyote

1. To create a diagonal band, work three rows of flat even-count peyote stitch (Figure 1).

2. Work an increase: Pick up three beads, and sew back through the first bead just picked up (Figure 2, a–b). Working in the other direction, continue in peyote stitch, stopping short of the final stitch in the row (b–c).

3. Work a decrease: Pick up a bead (add a smaller turn bead also, if desired, as shown), and sew back through the last up-bead in the previous row (c–d). Continue in peyote to complete the row (d–e).

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 (Figure 3) to the desired length, always working an increase along one edge and a decrease along the other edge.
