The Winners of Let’s Go 3-D

We're pleased to announce the winners of the June 2019 Facet Design Challenge!

LetsGo3Dwinners

We asked you to set aside your jewelry submissions in June, and send us your structural objects — built with jewelry supplies. You stepped up to the challenge and submitted boxes, purses, vessels, and more!

Here are the four 3-D items that captured our design imagination during the June 2019 Facet Design Challenge!

RCNewmanBriarRoseFairy
BRIAR ROSE WARRIOR FAIRY

Our READER'S CHOICE AWARD WINNER for June is Kimberly Newman of Urbana, Ohio. Congratulations to Kimberly for receiving the most online votes! No stranger to Bead&Button, Kimberly recently won Honorable Mention in the Wire category at the Bead&Button Show’s International Metal Jewelry Artistry Awards. Kudos to that win, too!

Kimberly tells us this about her entry Let’s Go 3-D.

The subject matter is a warrior fairy. The figure is shown seated in a garden setting, perched with a shield and bow and arrows. Techniques include wire working and metal stamping.

Thanks for the empowered 3-D figure!

VargasBeadedSpiceBox
BEADED SPICE BOX

Our next winner is Peggy Vargas who hails from Kent, Washington. She sent us a stunning box.

The design is based on the elaborate decorations of the Jubilee Synagogue in Prague, Czech Republic. It is 3-1/4" wide, 2-1/2" deep (box only) and 4-1/2" tall (including feet and finial/knob). The beaded box, with it’s interesting hexagonal shape, can be used as a spice box, trinket box, or just decoration. All beads are glass with Swarovski crystal legs and finial. The box is beaded at high tension, giving strength and stiffness to the sides, top and bottom without internal structure, taking months to make (I have a day job - darn!) The design is original, based on the technique detailed in Julia Pretl’s book "Little Bead Boxes."

MoffatJapaneseDragonscale
JAPANESE DRAGONSCALE HANDBAG

Our next winner sent us a unique, chainmail purse. Jacquie Moffat, is from Kooringal, New South Wales, Australia.

Jacquie tells us that her purse is made with bright aluminum jump rings. For a delicate focal point, she incorporated a Swarovski crystal star and a magnetic clasp. This incredible metallic purse is fully lined in light grey silk.

What a great 3-D object! Shop her chainmail designs on Facebook.

CoghillTallVase
TALL VASE

Our final winner for June is Doris (Dee) Coghill of Jordan, Minnesota. Her undeniably 3-D object is a beaded vase.

I used multiple stitches to cover the vase and add the top spiral embellishment. My techniques included tandem netting, right-angle weave, and peyote stitch.

Shop Dee’s Place for beading supplies, kits, classes and other beading info.

Congratulations to all of our winners! We are so thrilled each month to see the creative designs that our readers share with us.

Come join in the fun! There is still time to enter the next Design Challenge, THE BIRDS AND THE BEES. Submissions will close for this challenge on July 31.

Or look ahead to the August Competition DOG DAYS OF SUMMER (AND CATS!) coming soon to Facet. Watch for details!
