HAMMERED LACE, the second place finisher in the Wirework category in the 2016 BeadDreams competition

ARE YOU A PROFESSIONAL JEWELRY-MAKER, OR IS THIS A HOBBY?

I guess after more than twenty years of making a living at jewelry making with the pinched fingers, the hand cramps and multiple blisters, I have earned the right to call myself a professional jewelry maker! I have been in many magazines, including Just Steampunk, Just Jewelry, Step-by-Step Wire,Bead&Button and Lapidary Journal. I've also won several awards: second place in Wirework in the 2016 BeadDreams competition, a finalist in Wirework in the 2017 BeadDreams, and a finalist in Fire Mountain Gems' Metal category in their 2017 Jewelry-Making Contest.

I am completely self-taught. I have never had a class and although I love looking at other artists work, I don’t do tutorials for the fact that I love coming up with my own designs.

I own and operate my very own bead shop called Kim’s Creative Designs and have been in my current location for ten years.

WHAT’S THE GOOFIEST/MOST EMBARRASSING MISTAKE THAT YOU HAVE EVER MADE?

I hope I am not alone on this one.

Upon trying to glue the ends on a leather cord with Super Glue, yes, you guessed it I glued myself. But, not just the usual fingers that we have all done. Nooooo, I glued my fingers to my lip! Let’s just say nail polish remover taste terrible and I don’t recommend it to anyone, LOL!

WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON?

On my table now are two necklaces with matching earring for a customer that is made from ancient Roman glass that is over 2000 years old. Next is a hair barrette for a wedding done in tones of silver and grey.

WHERE CAN PEOPLE SEE MORE OF YOUR WORK?

I have a piece in the August  2017 Lapidary Journal. I can be found on Pinterest under BeadDreams competition.

I post most of my creations on Facebook under Kim’s Creative Designs. And I am a designer for the companies Beadsmith and Wirejewelry.com.
