1. HOW DID YOU LEARN JEWELRY-MAKING?

I am pretty much self-taught, although I am an avid reader of magazines and books and I have taken some classes at my local craft and jewelry shops. There was a lot of trial and error!! The best advice that I ever got was to just be tenacious and to try it anyway (no matter what anyone else/trends say)!

2. WHAT’S THE GOOFIEST OR MOST EMBARRASSING MISTAKE THAT YOU EVER MADE?

I needed to send in a piece of jewelry for a juried art festival and so I made a multi-strand necklace with a huge piece of labradorite, wire wrapped, as the pendant.  Apparently I did not make the stem tight enough when I completed the bead cap, and some of the tiny seed beads that I had used to end the strand, showed through! I was embarrassed, but I did get accepted.

3. WHAT STYLE OF JEWELRY DO YOU MAKE?

I love dramatic, statement pieces that are very colorful and expressive!

I can and will string just about any design. I prefer to work on over-the-top statement pieces—necklaces, earrings, bracelets! I have done some wire crochet with beads, some chain-maille and other wirework. My philosophy is that jewelry should accentuate a person’s personality and attitude, and its color, design and styling should give the wearer an opportunity to express herself in a BOLD manner.

4. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MATERIALS TO USE IN YOUR WORK?

I really LOVE natural gemstones—they are gorgeous and they usually speak to me in regards to how to design and pair them. I also love to work with crystals and various findings to make fun and interesting jewelry.

I love to make other beaded items and gifts. My fav is a chandelier that I recently made for a friend—it was an awesome experience and so much fun! The next thing I am going to try is a beaded curtain, using all of my bead soup left-overs! Then I am going to make new Christmas ornaments and some garland for my tree.

I find my inspiration from nature and fashion. I also like to look at unusual objects and see if I can make them into jewelry. I made this for a hairdressers’ photo shoot -- they are actually rhinestone barrettes strung with glass pearls!

5. WHAT IS YOUR WORKSPACE LIKE?

I made my spare bedroom into a studio and I love it! Always have my jump ring opener tool close at hand, and my Starbucks latte!
