The Domes

The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory — “The Domes” — in Milwaukee is a plant lover’s paradise, especially during a Wisconsin winter. This necklace, bracelet, and earrings use stamped copper domes, floral bead caps, and bold-colored bicones to express the juxtaposition of the geometric lines of The Domes and the organic nature of their exhibits.

See instructions for making the necklace in the gallery below, or download the free project PDF above, which includes additional instructions for making a bracelet and earrings.

Necklace 17 in. (43 cm)

  • 26 mm round copper disk
  • 30 4–6 mm bicone crystals in various colors
  • 6–8 6 mm floral bead caps
  • 20 in. (51 cm) cable chain, 8 mm links
  • 30 1 1⁄2-in. (3.8 cm) head pins
  • lobster claw clasp
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters
  • ball-peen hammer or mallet
  • bench block or anvil
  • dapping kit
  • 1 or 2 floral-themed stamps
  • metal hole-punch pliers
  • stripe texture hammer
  • liver of sulfur and polishing cloth or brush (optional)
  • If you don’t want to purchase an entire dapping kit, a dapping block (and punch) with a 28 mm depression will work.
  • If you don’t use chain with open links, you’ll need three 7 mm jump rings to attach the necklace’s clasp and dome pendant.
