Apply flux to both metal pieces you want to join. Place the smaller piece on a soldering pad. Heat the piece until the flux becomes a white crust. Place solder pallions on the smaller metal piece and continue heating until the solder flows (Figure).
With soldering tweezers, quickly position the smaller metal piece, solder-side down, on the larger piece. Heat both pieces until the solder melts again. A bright line of silver may appear at the edge where the two metal pieces meet, or the smaller metal piece may slightly drop down to indicate that the solder has reflowed.
Remove the heat, and quench the piece in water.
