Weave a simple leather bracelet

As a first-time bead weaver, I found an easy-to-make pattern to try on the loom. Mine uses only one bead per row and no seed beads, so it’s a quick way to get comfortable with weaving.

INSTRUCTIONS

Learn how to set up the loom using two warp threads for this project.

Weave a simple leather bracelet Step 1
Step 1
Cut a 4-ft. (1.2 m) piece of WildFire and thread a needle on it. To anchor the thread by making a selvage edge: Tie a surgeon’s knot on the first (left-hand) warp. Starting from the left, go over the second warp. Looping the thread around, go under the second warp and over the first warp. Continue until you’ve made about a 3⁄16-in. (5 mm) selvage edge, ending at the first warp. Note: Taper the selvage end a bit so it fits into the clasp opening.

Step 2
Bring the needle under the warps and pick up a pearl. Slide it toward the first warp. Place your index finger under the warps and push the pearl up between the warps.

Step 3
Sew back through the pearl, keeping the needle on top of the warps. Tighten the thread.

Step 4
Bring the needle under the warps and pick up a crystal. Slide the crystal toward the first warp. Place your index finger under the warps and push the crystal up between the warps. Sew back through the crystal, keeping the needle on top of the warps.

Step 5
Repeat steps 2 to 4, alternating crystal colors and keeping the thread tension consistent throughout, until the beaded section is within 1⁄2 in. (1.3 cm) of the finished length. Weave a 3⁄16-in. (5 mm) selvage edge as in step 1. Tie a knot and trim the excess thread. Apply G-S Hypo Cement to the selvage edge and the knot. Allow to dry.
Weave a simple leather bracelet Step 6
Step 6
Remove the bracelet from the loom by carefully cutting the cord near the buttons on the back of the loom. Trim the excess cord close to the selvage.
Weave a simple leather bracelet Step 7
Step 7
Apply Loctite Gel to the inside of a clasp half. Insert one end of the bracelet. Repeat on the other end, making sure to position the clasp correctly. Allow to dry.
