On the top surface of the fabric, pick up a seed bead, a bugle bead, and a seed bead, snug them up, and align them on top of the fabric. Sew down through the fabric next to the last seed bead and up through the fabric next to the first seed bead. Sew through the three beads again. In subsequent stitches, pick up a bugle and a seed bead, and sew through the last seed bead in the previous stitch and the two new beads. The seed beads prevent the sharp edges of the bugles from cutting the thread.
