[5] With the dome still on the lightbulb, lightly sand the top surface of the dome, working through the sandpaper grits from coarse to fine (Photo E). Using a paintbrush, brush away the excess clay dust after sanding between each grit. Repeat for the bail while still on the straw.
[6] Carefully remove the dome from the lightbulb, and carefully twist the straw to loosen it from the dried bail. Place the dome and the bail on the fire blanket. In a dimly-lit, well-ventilated room, ignite the butane torch. Hold the torch 4-6 in. (10-15 cm) from the bail, and continually move the torch to distribute the heat evenly. When the piece appears to be a peach color, begin timing the firing for two minutes, maintaining the peach color the entire time (Photo F). If the color becomes pale, bring the torch closer until you see peach. If the piece appears shiny or the color looks red, back the torch away to prevent melting. Allow the piece to cool on its own, or pick it up with tweezers and drop it into water to quench. Repeat for the bail.
