Hey, East Coast bead and jewelry enthusiasts! Looking for a way to connect with fellow artists, learn or teach about beads and beading, show off your creations, meet others, and have fun? Check into Beadesigner International (BDI), The New England Bead Society.

Established in 1986, Beadesigner International (BDI) is a non-profit organization, devoted to the art, craft, and history of beads and all things made with beads. Their membership consists of bead makers, jewelry designers, collectors, shop owners, and generally anyone with an interest in this area of art.

Members work with glass, wire, polymer clay, precious metal clay, fiber and other materials, fabricating objects for personal use and sale. Their goal is to foster a fellowship through the exchange of knowledge and ideas and to share their passion with the public.

BDI is a group that is always looking to further the interests of their membership by oresenting an assortment of monthly programs. They frequently welcome speakers and presenters to the group: local and national artists, historians, educators and others who present lectures, slide shows or demonstrations. They also sponsor workshops several times a year that allow members to enhance their skills or learn new techniques in their many fields of interest.

Other events include Bead-Ins, where you can work on new (or old) projects while socializing with fellow beaders. You may be able to find some needed advice or expertise to take your work-in-progress to the next level!

Not sure whether joining the organization is for you? Stop by a meeting and check it out! Guests are always welcome, and you will be able to meet fellow artists and craft enthusiasts (and have a snack, too!). Most events take place in the Boston suburbs (Lexington and Watertown, MA). Or check out the organization electronically: fellow members are profiled on the beadesignerintl.org website!

More vendors coming to Bead Affaire in 2018!

The major event each year for BDI is Bead Affaire, a wonderful opportunity for jewelry makers to come together and shop! This year's "Big Bead Sale" is right around the corner; it will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the Armenian Cultural Center in Watertown, Massachusetts, just 20 minutes outside of Boston.

But the Bead Affaire is not just a bead sale! More than 40 vendors will be on site, and you will find unique art glass pendants, necklaces and bracelets in addition to silver charms and findings. Whether you are looking for beads by the strand, chain, leather cord, polymer clay beads and jewelry, crystal, Lucite, metal components, vintage beads, beading kits, accessories and much more.  There will be a great mix of seasoned, newer, and first time vendors to check out. You can see the complete list of vendors here!

If you check out the website, you may just find a coupon for discounted admission! Also be sure to follow the Bead Affaire Facebook page for last-minute updates.
